My name is James Curtin and I am a candidate for selectman. I believe I am the voice needed to bring about positive change to the Town of Stoughton.

I have been a resident for the past 18 years and I am employed by the town's fire department, as a Lieutenant assigned as the supervisor of the Emergency Medical Services Division.

My wife Elaine and I have raised three daughters all of which are attending, or have attended Stoughton Public Schools. We have found Stoughton to be a culturally diverse quiet town with good schools and excellent services. In the past four years our town has had negative issues that have divided its people.

The financial crisis of our country is not only a federal issue; it is now a state and local issue. The town is facing some tough economic times and crucial fiscal decisions are on the horizon. If we remain divided it will only make matters worse.
It is time to bring a new face to the Board of Selectman, someone willing to mediate discourse and navigate the challenges facing the town in the present and future.

– AS Johnson & Wales University and AS Massasoit Community College

The following are my goals when elected to the Board of Selectman

  • Minimize any loss of town services

  • Keep legal costs to a minimum
  • Prevent or limit construction of 40B's to the best of my ability
  • Assist in restoring pride and cohesiveness to the Stoughton Police Department
